Tóm tắt

Từ cuối thế kỷ XIX đến đầu thế kỷ XX, y học không chỉ đóng vai trò cải thiện sức khỏe cộng đồng mà còn trở thành một công cụ phục vụ cho mục tiêu cai trị thuộc địa. Nghiên cứu này tập trung phân tích vai trò của Viện Pasteur Sài Gòn đối với hoạt động y tế tại Nam Kỳ (1891-1945), nhằm làm rõ mối quan hệ giữa khoa học với chính sách y tế công cộng và quyền lực thực dân. Dựa trên phương pháp lịch sử, phương pháp logic cùng hướng tiếp cận liên ngành lịch sử - xã hội học, bài báo đã phân tích tài liệu lưu trữ, báo cáo y tế thuộc địa và các công trình nghiên cứu đương đại để làm sáng tỏ cách Viện Pasteur Sài Gòn hoạt động như một mắt xích quan trọng trong mạng lưới y tế thực dân. Đồng thời, bài báo góp phần xây dựng hình ảnh của chính quyền Pháp như một lực lương “khai hóa” nhân danh khoa học. Trong đó, Viện Pasteur không chỉ sản xuất các loại vắc-xin phòng bệnh, mà còn tham gia kiểm soát dịch bệnh, phục vụ quân đội và bảo vệ lợi ích của chính quyền thực dân. Nghiên cứu cũng chỉ ra rằng, đằng sau các nỗ lực y tế mang tính nhân đạo là một hệ thống kiểm soát sinh học – xã hội, trong đó vắc-xin và y học hiện đại trở thành phương tiện duy trì trật tự thuộc địa. Bằng cách tiếp cận lịch sử y học dưới lăng kính quyền lực và chính trị, nghiên cứu góp phần tái hiện vai trò kép của Viện Pasteur Sài Gòn: vừa là trung tâm khoa học tiên phong, vừa là công cụ phục vụ cho dự án thuộc địa hóa Đông Dương của Pháp.
