Gynochthodes officinalis là loài thực vật thuộc họ Rubiaceae có giá trị dược liệu và sinh thái quan trọng, phân bố chủ yếu ở khu vực nhiệt đới châu Á, trong đó Việt Nam được xem là một trong những trung tâm phân bố đáng chú ý. Tại tỉnh Thanh Hóa, loài này xuất hiện trong các hệ sinh thái rừng tự nhiên và rừng thứ sinh, tuy nhiên các nghiên cứu về đặc điểm di truyền và mức độ đa dạng quần thể còn rất hạn chế. Vùng DNA ribosomal ITS (Internal Transcribed Spacer) là marker phân tử được sử dụng rộng rãi trong nghiên cứu phát sinh chủng loại và nhận diện loài ở thực vật nhờ tốc độ tiến hóa tương đối nhanh và khả năng phân giải tốt ở cấp độ loài. Nghiên cứu này tiến hành phân lập và phân tích trình tự ITS từ mẫu G. officinalis thu tại Thanh Hóa. Kết quả thu được trình tự ITS có chiều dài 692 bp. Phân tích phát sinh chủng loại dựa trên dữ liệu ITS và các trình tự tham chiếu trên GenBank cho thấy hai mẫu nghiên cứu được xếp trong cùng nhóm loài G. officinalis với giá trị bootstrap 91%.
