Thành ngữ là một yếu tố ngôn ngữ khó, gây nhiều khó khăn cho sinh viên trong quá trình học dịch. Bài báo này trình bày một khảo sát về khả năng nhận diện thành ngữ tiếng Anh và tiếng Việt của sinh viên năm 3 ngành Ngôn ngữ Anh - Đại học Thái Nguyên trong quá trình học dịch, những khó khăn của các em trong quá trình dịch và những chiến lược mà các em áp dụng vào trong quá trình dịch. Nghiên cứu được thực hiện theo cả 2 hướng là định lượng và định tính, thông qua các phiếu khảo sát, phỏng vấn và làm bài kiểm tra, nhằm trả lời 3 câu hỏi nghiên cứu là Khả năng nhận diện thành ngữ của sinh viên ở mức độ nào? Những khó khăn mà sinh viên gặp phải khi dịch thành ngữ là gì? Và Những chiến lược mà sinh viên thường áp dụng trong quá trình dịch thành ngữ là gì? Kết quả của nghiên cứu cho thấy khả năng nhận diện thành ngữ của sinh viên chỉ ở mức trung bình; sinh viên còn gặp khó khăn trong quá trình dịch thành ngữ và đặc biệt là sinh viên còn mơ hồ với những chiến lược được áp dụng trong quá trình dịch thuật.
