Objective: To describe characteristics of cardiac arrhythmias on 24-hour Holter ECG in patients with an acute cerebral infarction. Methodology: A cross-sectional study in 160 patients with acute cerebral infarction, who received 24- hour Holter ECG in Bac Giang General Hospital from May 2016 to May 2017. Results: Mean age of 63.8 (from 40 to 90); Male/female ratio was 1.3/1. The percentage of hemiplegia was 63.8%. Average score of Glasgow was 12.9. 28.1% patients with multiple lesions on CT scan. The rate of cardiac arrhythmias on standard and conventional ECG and Holter 24-hour were 54.4% and 86.9%, respectively, which was statistically significant (p<0.0001). The percentages of supraventricular arrhythmias, ventricular arrhythmias and conductive disorders on the Holter ECG were 55%; 16.3% and 15.6%. Comparisons of electrocardiography are more common than 24–hour Holter ECG detects higher rates of arrhythmias and specifically detect 3 types of arrhythmias ECG not detected (atrial fibrillation, stopped sinus, fast heart beat) Conclusions: Detection of cardiac arrhythmias in patients with acute cerebral infarction evaluated by 24-hour Holter ECG was significantly better than with conventional ECG.
