Diabetes is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States and the leading cause of disability and death in other countries. Diabetes is also a leading cause of end-stage renal disease, blindness and amputation. The treatment of complete diabetes is still under investigation, but close coperation between physicians and patients will produce good results. The foundation of this partnership is that the person must have basic knowledge of diabetes so that he or she understands and improves self-awareness in treatment. By a survey of 338 diabetic patients treated at outpatient department at Hospital of Thai Nguyen Medical University, the results showed that: the proportion of patients with symptoms and complications of the disease is relatively high from 60 to 70% corresponding to this understanding; The percentage of patients adhering to absolute treatment by physician was 52.1%; The percentage of patients who followed their blood glucose monthly was 79.6%; However, only 20 - 30% of patients know about risk factors. 100% of patients know about the disease from health staff. 100% of patients want information about risk factors, complications, treatment, diet regimen and 100% of patients want to hear the information from doctors.
