Abstract

The aim of the study is to evaluate the results of otitis media with effusion treatment by using ventilation tube insertion technique. The study subjects include 49 patients who diagnosed with otitis media and underwent surgery to place tympanic membrane ventilation tubes at the Department of Otorhinolaryngology-Thai Nguyen National Hospital from April 2023 to February 2024. The research method is to describe the process with before and after. The results showed that the mean age of the study sample was 27.8 years, 44.9% patients were males, and 55.1% were females. The age group over 15 accounted for 53.1% of the patients. Common functional symptoms included tinnitus (81.6%) and hearing loss (46.9%). There were 52.9% of patients who had a concave eardrum, while 58.6% had a clear tympanic membrane with air bubbles. Type B tympanogram is the most common with a rate of 71.4%. After ventilation tube insertion, most have improvement in functional symptoms and hearing. The condition of the ventilation tube being dry, clear, and in the correct position is the most common condition with 85.7%. Good results are 91.1%; average results were 6.3% and poor results were 2.5%. Conclusions through the study show that Endoscopic ventilation tube insertion brings positive results in the treatment of otitis media with effusion.
