Abstract

This study aims to describe the clinical epidemiological characteristics and complications of influenza in children at Thai Nguyen National Hospital. The cross-sectional study was conducted on 490 children under 16 years old with seasonal influenza treated at the Pediatric Center of Thai Nguyen National Hospital from 01st April 2023 to 31st March 2024. Research results show that the infection rates of Influenza A and Influenza B are similar. The highest number of infected children aged 12 months - 60 months, accounting for 59.2%. Influenza is most common in winter, the common chief complaints are fever and cough (89.8%). The main symptoms were fever (100%), sore throat (93.8%), runny nose (86.7%). Most patients had nomal white blood cell count and serum CRP. There are 22.3% of children suffering from complications of influenza, of which the highest rate is pneumonia (12.2%). Unvaccinated children are 4.62 times more likely to have complications from influenza infection than vaccinated children. Premature infants are 12.65 times more likely to have complications from influenza infection than full-term infants.
