ASSESSING TREATMENTS’ RESULTS OF HEMORRHOID SURGERY BY LONGO PROCEDURE AT THE HOSPITAL OF COLLEGE OF MEDICINE AND PHARMACY - TNU

Introduction: Piles is a very common disease, and all of conventional hemorrhoidectomies are painful. Longo’s procedure is a new technique in which the rectal mucosa was cut and stapled with a device. As a result, it caused less post-operative pain. The aim of this study was to dertermine the effective and safety of Longo’s procedure. Methods: This study included 85 patients with internal hemorrhoid who underwent Longo’s procedure. Design study description. Results: From January 2014 to December 2016, 85 patients (53 males: 32 females) with average age of 44.43 and from second-degree to fourth-degree hemorrhoids, 52.94% in third-degree. Operation time was 36.94 minutes. Length of stay was 3.8 days. The complications after procedure: bleeding is 2.35%, and no cases of anal stenosis. Conclusions: short-term result shows that Longo’s procedure is safe and effective for selected patients.
