EVOLUTION OF THE AP2 GENE FAMILY AND THE DREB GENE SUBFAMILY IN ARABIDOPSIS THALIANA AND SOYBEAN PLANTS

Abstract


Studies have shown that transcription factors (TFs), including DREB, play important roles in regulating responses to abiotic stresses, such as drought and salt. Therefore, this study aimed to screen and characterize the DREB gene group of Arabidopsis thaliana and soybean-based on AP2 and DREB gene data in GenBank by molecular evolution analysis using bioinformatics tools. The results identified 18 DREB genes located on 17 soybean chromosomes and 12 DREB genes on five A. thaliana chromosomes. The phylogenetic tree demonstrated the molecular evolution of the AP2 gene family, DREB gene subfamily, and AP2 domain in DREB protein in soybean and A. thaliana. The evolution of the AP2 gene family formed four monophyletic groups and one paraphyletic group. The DREB subfamily has formed 5 monophyletic groups and 3 para-monophyletic groups. The amino acid sequences of the AP2 domain in the DREB protein are distributed in 16 groups, including 9 monophyletic groups and 7 para-monophyletic groups. Notably, the monophyletic groups have a small number of sequences, ranging from 2-8 sequences; the para-monophyletic groups have a large number of sequences (4-28 sequences). The results of the study are the basis for selecting and analyzing the function of the DREB gene to improve the ability to withstand adverse factors of crops using gene technology.
