Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate medication adherence levels and factors influencing adherence in diabetic patients treated at Buon Ma Thuot Medical University Hospital. A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted with a sample of 552 patients. Medication adherence was assessed using the Morisky Medication Adherence Scale (MMAS-8), and influencing factors were analyzed using Chi-square tests or Spearman's rank correlation coefficient, as appropriate. The results showed that the majority of patients were female (53.44%), with the predominant age group being 50-70 years (65.94%), the most common educational level was junior high school (40.04%). A high proportion of patients reported adherence to lifestyle recommendations (>70%). The most prevalent comorbidity was dyslipidemia (57.61%), and the majority had a disease duration of less than 5 years (65.68%). The overall rate of moderate to high medication adherence was 77.35%. Factors significantly associated with medication adherence (p < 0.05) included gender, age, alcohol consumption, understanding of treatment regimen counseling, presence chronic kidney disease, dyslipidemia, and disease duration.
