EXPLOITING THE ADVANTAGES OF THE EU-VIETNAM FREE TRADE AGREEMENT TO PROMOTE AGRICULTURAL EXPORTS OF VIETNAM TO EUROPEAN MARKET

Abstract

On December 2, 2015, Vietnam and the European Union officially concluded negotiations the EU - Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA). A "new generation" agreement on trade of Vietnam, EVFTA is expected to creat preferences for exports, especially agricultural exports of the country. In this paper, the authors describe the current situation, performance and limitations of agricultural exports of Vietnam to EU over the 2005 - 2015 period. We also analyze the main commitments of EVFTA to the operation of the Vietnam agricultural exports. Finally, we propose some recommendations to exploit the advantages of the Agreement in order to promote Vietnam's agricultural exports to the EU market in the near future.
