Abstract

Codonopsis Javanica is a precious medicinal herb that is used in traditional medicine. This species contains many biologically active ingredients that have therapeutic effects in medicine. Codonopis Javanica has therapeutic effects such as reducing inflammation and pain, relieving cough and asthma, detoxifying the liver, loosening phlegm, diuretic, laxative. It also used to treat some diseases such as scabies, nephrolithiasis, and erectile dysfunction. In addition, Codonopis Javanica has the anti-fatigue effect and enhances the body’s tolerance to high-temperature environments. Nowadays, Codonopis Javanica in nature is depleted more and more, so Codonopsis Javanica preservation and breeding is very essential. In this paper, the effects of some certain supplements on the growth of Codonopsis Javanica in vitro will be presented. The result show that, the Murashige and Skoog medium + agar 9,0 g/l + BAP 0,6 mg/l + IBA 0,6 mg/l is used with the supplements namely: sucrose 30 g/l, coconut water 100 ml/l, activated carbon 1 g/l, which gives the best environment for Codonopsis Javanica growth and development. By tissue culture technology, it helps to multiply rapidly this cultivar and it can be preserved successfully of Codonopsis Javanica in vitro.
