Abstract

This study aims to determine the characteristics of frailty syndrome in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass surgery at Ha Noi Heart Hospital from 2022 January to August. Cross-sectional description was used with 85 patients undergoing elective coronary artery bypass surgery. Frailty syndrome were measured by using essential frailty toolset. Male/female ratio was 1:1, the average age was 67.3 ± 5.3. 24 patients (28.2%) were frail, 38 (44.8%) were prefrail, and 23 (27.0%) were nonfrail. Slow chair raise time, cognitive impairment, anemia were 60.0%, 31.7%; 32.9%, respectively. Frailty patient has higher average age (69.5 ± 7.3 vs 65.3 ± 5.9 yo); higher female ratio (39.0% vs 18.2%); higher diabetes mellitus (58.9% vs 27.8%), higher average EUROscore (4.1 ± 3.5 vs 2.2 ± 2.3%), higher average STS score  (2.3 ± 3.1 vs 1.2 ± 1.1), reduced left ventricular ejection fraction (51.4 ± 15.3 vs 57.6 ± 13.1%), prolonged ventilation (42.4 ± 8.4 vs 30.6 ± 7.72 hour), prolonged post operative time (14.7 ± 6.2 vs 11.8 ± 5.4 day); higher pneumonie ratio (33.3% vs 3.2%), higher delerium ratio (25.0% vs 1.6%) comparing to nonfrail patients (p<0.05). Frailty syndrome is common in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass surgery and may effect to outcomes of these patients.
