Abstract

The objectives of this study were to investigate the resources of eco-tourism and the development of tourism in Pac Nam district, Bac Kan province. Secondary data was collected from agencies related to the tourism sector while primary one was gathered by using questionnaires on 3 groups of tourists (outside Bac Kan province, inside Bac Kan province but outside Pac Nam district, and inside Pac Nam district). Pac Nam is a district containing abundance of difficulties in both natural and economic-social conditions, of which tourism development is considered very impoverished. The resources including both nature and humanity of the district were believed as great potential for the development of eco-tourism in the future with a large portion of the assessment being positive. However, there are weaknesses and limitations inhibiting the development of tourism in the district which are poor facilities and marketing activities. The results of this study are expected to become crucial scientific bases for proposing solutions for the sustainable development of Pac Nam district’s tourism.
