Abstract

This study aims to analyze the characteristics of ultrasound, mammography, cytology and compare the results of these three tests with histopathological results after surgery in breast cancer patients at the Oncology Center of Thai Nguyen National Hospital. From January 2021 to December 2021, we did a cross-sectional descriptive study and took retrospective data on 48 patients who underwent clinical examination, x-ray and ultrasound of the mammary gland, surgery and histopathological results confirmed breast cancer. The results showed breast cancer imaging characteristics on X-ray: localized lesions (93.8%), astrological signs (68.8%), unclear boundaries (58.3%), increased attenuation (54.2%), calcifications suspected of malignancy (41.7%), signs of traction (18.8%). The features of breast cancer on ultrasound: hypoechoic (100%), cuboidal lesions (95.8%), irregular density (87.5%), unclear boundaries (72.9%), invasive lesions (20.9%). Characteristics of cytology: the results of fine needle aspiration are malignant and suspected malignancy accounted for 95.8%, benign accounted for 4.2%. The concordance rate of X-ray, ultrasound and cytological aspiration was 91.6%, 89.6% and 95.7%. It can be seen that the trio of mammography, ultrasound, and fine needle aspiration tests have very high value in detecting breast cancer and are non or less invasive tools that are easy to perform, can be used in screening and early detection of breast cancer.
