Abstract


In today knowledge economy, the core assets of modern organization is not its physical assets but the intelligence, skills and knowledge of knowledge employees which has increased need for knowledge workers while the management of knowledge workers is totally different from managing the manual workers or lower qualified employees due to the nature of the works they perform and their distinctive characteristics. This research investigates factors driving the motivation of knowledge workers by employing mainly quantitative methods namely, descriptive statistic, regression model and Chi-square to analyze thedata from the survey consisting of 100 Vietnamese knowledge employees. The findings shows that intrinsic motivations including, empowerment, authority and recognition are considered as key factors motivating knowledge workers within organizations while prompt and normal promotion along with the longer working experience have negative impact on job motivation.
