Abstract

Through a long development process, the Tay people in eastern Lang Son have built for themselves a rich culture both materially and spiritually. But now, many cultural values are undergoing profound changes in the context of industrialization, modernization and international integration. This study aims to clarify some issues about the change of material culture of the Tay people in eastern Lang Son, and give reasons for the change. With the use of historical method, logical method combined with ethnographic field method, the research results show that the change of material culture of the Tay people in eastern Lang Son have both value and countervalue, outdated customs which have two-way impact on the preservation and development of culture. On that basis, the study also pointed out the subjective and objective causes leading to this change. The results of the study confirm that cultural synchronicity of the Tay people is a direct important content of the preservation and development of ethnic minority culture in particular, Vietnamese national culture in general.
