Abstract

This study was conducted in the period from April to August, 2023 to evaluate the current status of pesticide packaging management in agricultural production in Bac Giang province and propose measures to improve it. The main methods used in this study include collecting secondary data; surveying and interviewing key staff; sampling and analyzing soil quality; and data analysis. Results have showed that the total amount of pesticide packaging generated in Bac Giang was nearly 21.4 tons/year. However, the rate of collection and treatment in accordance with regulations was only 2.4 tons/year, accounting for 11.2%. Residues of organochlorine pesticides have been detected in soil in agricultural production areas of the province, but the concentration was still low and within the safe threshold. The management of pesticide packaging in the province has many limitations such as: there is no uniform implementation Project/Plan across the province; unsecured technical infrastructure; investment funds have not been separated; and people's awareness of environmental protection is still limited. To solve the problem of pesticide packaging after use, Bac Giang should soon develop and issue a specific Project/Plan with comprehensive and appropriate solutions for implementation in the whole province.
