Abstract


Phytophthora palmivora can damage durians at various stages of development, and cause serious losses in yield and product value. The study aimed to select strains of rhizobacteria capable of inhibiting P. palmivora, and evaluate their antagonistic properties. The antagonistic activity of bacteria was carried out by the co-culture method. The ability to produce cellulase, protease, and siderophore of antagonistic bacteria strains was evaluated under in vitro conditions. Eighteen isolates exhibited inhibitory activity against P. palmivora, with growth inhibition percentages ranging from 36.5 - 59.7%. Cellulase, protease, and siderophore activities differed among the isolates. The ability to produce cellulase was positively correlated with the antagonistic ability of the isolates. The CT7 strain with the highest growth inhibition percentage against P. palmivora was identified as Bacillus siamensis. This study indicated the potential of using rhizosphere bacteria as the biological control agents in durian cultivation.
