Abstract

Metallic and bimetallic nanoparticles are widely used in many fields. In this paper, Cu/Ag bimetallic nanostructures as well as copper and silver nanoparticles were synthesized using lemon peel extract. Lemon peel extract was used as a reducing agent and surface stabilizer in the synthesis of nanoparticles. The optical properties of the nanoparticles were investigated through UV-Vis absorption spectra. The Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) indicated the functional groups and compounds present in the lemon peel extract and the nanoparticle solution. The composition and percentage of elements in the synthesized nanoparticles were shown on the energy-dispersive X-ray spectrum (EDS). The shape, size and structure of the nanoparticles were known through the scanning electron microscope (SEM). The results showed that spherical silver, copper and bimetallic nanoparticles were synthesized with relatively uniform sizes.
