Abstract

This study examines major factors affecting the livelihoods of local people who depend on forest resources in 03 communes in the buffer zone of special-use forest Dinh Hoa, Thai Nguyen including Phu Dinh, Diem Mac and Thanh Dinh. To get the results, the study interviewed 135 households related to forest management in 03 communes by using stratified sampling (45 good, 45 average and 45 poor). Factors affecting people's livelihoods were determined by a linear function. The research results show that people here were still dependent on forest resources; 46.11% of the households were good, the average and poor households occupied  48.25% and 42.08% respectively. Research on factors affecting livelihoods (income) of the people was shown through the following model: thunhap = -4.531 + 3.169 taphuanqlbvr + 0.00049 dientich + 1.333 laodong + 7.022 hocvan + 0.563 tuoi. The equation showed that the educational attainment of the household heads affected the household's income with 100% significance.
