Abstract

Preclinical testing using animal models has become one of the compulsory examinations for a new drug. Zebrafish has been applied as an outstanding vertebrate model for preclinical testing with different advantages. This study aimed to examine the effect of nutrition conditions and fertilization conditions on the reproduction ability of zebrafish. The zebrafish were kept in a circulating system with different conditions and then selected for breeding. The reproduction ability of zebrafish was evaluated based on the number of embryos and the fertilized eggs from 1 hour to 120 hours after fertilization. The result showed that system maintenance (27±1°C, pH 7 ±0,1; 10 hours light/14 hours dark), feeding twice a day, and breeding at 8 am were the best for the reproduction ability of zebrafish. The result of this study suggested that the breeding of zebrafish are potential to develop the zebrafish as the animal model for biomedical research.
