Abstract

The Ong singing tradition in Hau village, Lien Chung commune, Tan Yen district, Bac Giang province, with its unique and captivating cultural features, has been passed down through many generations. However, recently, the continuous development of modern society and the intersection of various cultures have led to a gradual decline in the Ong singing melodies. With the aim of preserving and conserving the folk songs of Hau village, through practical field research, 2,278 verses of songs were collected, covering a variety of themes such as: folk songs reflecting customs and traditions; folk songs representing communication and interaction culture; folk songs depicting the life of labor and production; folk songs illustrating family life; folk songs expressing love for the homeland; and folk songs showcasing romantic love among the people of Hau village. Therefore, the preservation, conservation, and promotion of the value of these folk songs need to be given proper attention. For this reason, the article aims to provide an overview of the folk songs; classify the verses to facilitate the preservation, conservation, and development of this form of folk music. This will serve as a basis for proposing some measures to preserve this genre of folk music.
