Abstract


This paper explores the current state of the development of Hoa Loc mango, one of two famous agricultural products having geographical indication of Tien Giang province. By analyzing secondary and primary data collected through field method and expert method, this article analyzes the development status of Hoa Loc mango in Tien Giang before and after getting geographical indication certification. The findings of this article show that: (1) geographical indications have not effectively enhanced the economic value and developing the brand of Hoa Loc mango in both domestic and foreign markets; (2) the flunctuations of area, the output, the productivity and territorial distribution of Hoa Loc mango before and after getting geographical indication need to be concerned. Results of the SWOT analysis clarifies the major difficulties and challenges that Tien Giang province needs to tackle with to develop and enhance the value of Hoa Loc mango speciality in the future, both in domestic and foreign markets.
