Abstract

This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of climate change on variations in growth ring width, specific gravity and tracheid length of Pinus massoniana trees grown in Cao Bang province, Vietnam. Five 15-year-old P. Massoniana trees were collected to examine the relationships of wood properties with the relative climate changes. Research results showed that when temperature and rainfall increase, tracheid length tends to increase, while growth ring width tends to decrease. However, these relationships were low and not statistically significant (P > 0.05). Temperature had a significant influence on the change in specific gravity of P. massoniana wood. As the temperature increases, the specific gravity of wood also tends to increase. The correlation coefficient between temperature and specific gravity is 0.59 (P < 0.01).
