Abstract

The study designed microparticulate system from Eudragit RS, incorporated with silk fibroin, to adsorb the drug methylprednisolone for oral administration. The blank microparticle system was prepared using solvent exchange method, while the drug-loaded microparticle system was prepared using adsorption method. The dynamic light scattering method was used to evaluate the particle size, which were microns. The interaction of components in the system was demonstrated by the FT-IR spectrum, showing the presence of fibroin, Eudragit RS, and methylprednisolone. The highest adsorption efficiency reached 69.1%. The particles were able to protect the active component in an acidic environment, with release efficiencies at pH 1.2 was less than 20%. On the other hand, in the simulated intestinal condition (pH 6.8), the release efficiency peaked at 70%. These results affirm the potential of the Eudragit RS/fibroin microparticulate system in drug adsorption and oral delivery, ensuring the stability of the active pharmaceutical ingredient in the acidic environment of the stomach and optimizing its release in the intestinal environment.
