Abstract

Feline infectious enteritis, which has a high fatality rate, is caused by feline panleukopenia virus. The purpose of this cross-sectional study was to determine certain epidemiological characteristics, clinical symptoms, and haematological parameters of cats with feline panleukopenia virus infection. This study identified that the prevalence of the disease in cats in Buon Ma Thuot city was 7.69% (95% confidence interval: 6.26 - 9.41%) utilising clinical diagnosis combined with a rapid kit test for detecting feline panleukopenia virus in faecal and vomiting samples. Multivariable logistic regression analysis revealed that unvaccinated and female cats were 1.81 and 1.84 times higher risk of infection, respectively, than those vaccinated and male cats. Foreign breed cats were at a 67% lower risk of being infected than those of domestic breed cats. Cats infected with feline panleukopenia virus presented some main symptoms, including vomiting, drooling, diarrhoea, and lethargy, with prevalence rates ranging from 93.33% to 100%. Total white blood cells, lymphocytes, monocytes, granulocytes, and platelets were severely reduced in infected cats.
