Abstract


Hair is crucial in enhancing beauty, confidence, and personal impression. However, it is vulnerable to damage caused by pollution, UV radiation, and chemical exposure. Herbal-based hair conditioners are gaining popularity due to their moisturizing, restorative, and protective properties. This study aimed to formulate and evaluate the quality of hair conditioner containing grapefruit peel extract, aloe vera, and olive oil. A total of 19 formulations were designed using the Design-Expert software. The study investigated the effects of various factors, including grapefruit peel extract (X1), a cetyl alcohol: stearic acid (1:1) mixture (X2), and shea butter (X3), on the quality of the final product. The conditioner’s quality was evaluated based on appearance, pH, viscosity, spreadability, homogeneity, stability, hair-smoothing ability, and ocular irritation potential. The results identified the optimal formulation F11, comprising 15% grapefruit peel extract, 7% cetyl alcohol : stearic acid (1:1), and 5% shea butter. The herbal-based hair conditioner formulated with grapefruit peel, aloe vera, and olive oil met quality standards and demonstrated effectiveness in hair nourishment and restoration.
