Hyperhomocysteinemia is common in end stage renal disease. Objective: 1) Assess the effect homocysteine lowering of folic acid, vitamin B12, vitamin B6 in hemodialysis patients. Method: A cross-sectional study of 63 hemodialysis patients, who divided into two groups. Group 1: Included 32 hemodialysis patients, not given daily supplementation of vitamin. Group 2: Included 31 hemodialysis patients, given daily supplementation of 30 mg folic acid, 100mg vitamin B6 and 1mg of vitamin B12. Plasma Hcy and some other tests were measured at baseline, at 3 months. Result: At baseline, at 3 months, the plasma Hcy in group 1 were 38.4±20.5 µmol/L and 39.0±19.4 µmol/L, respectively. Plasma Hcy levels decreased significantly in group 2, from 39.0±17.0 µmol/L to 28.8±13.2 µmol/L at 3 months (p<0.05) Conclussion: Daily supplementation of vitamin can be reduced plasma Hcy levels.
