CONSTITUENTS AND BIOLOGICAL ACTIVITY OF HA GIANG ELSHOLTZIA WINITIANA CRAIB OIL

Abstract


The oil of Elsholtzia winitiana craib was obtained by steam distillation and dried with Na2SO4. Physico-chemical properties of the oils have analyzed: density, 0.875 in 20oC; acid index, 0.643 (mgKOH/g) and esters index, 0.721 (mg KOH/g). By GC-MS method, 41 constituents were identified from the Ha Giang Elsholtzia winitiana craib oil, from which 19 hydrocarbons (monoterpenes: 35.24%, sesquiterpenes: 8.84%) and 22 oxygenated constituents (aldehydes: 19.10%, alcohols: 16.13%, esters: 13.91% and oxygen: 4.61%). Antioxidant activity was determined by DPPH methods which was 40.28 ± 0.25%. Antimicrobial activity of Ha Giang Elsholtzia winitiana craib oil has been identified by agar diffusion method against: Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhi and Bacillus cereus.
