Abstract

The study aims to assess the structural characteristics of the Erythrophleum fordii (Lim xanh) population in the Nhanh reservoir protection forest, Dong Hy commune, Thai Nguyen province, in order to evaluate the ecological effectiveness of long-term plantations and propose conservation solutions. Data were collected from eight standard plots (500 m² each), using forest inventory methods to measure structural indicators, biomass estimation based on a regression model (Chave et al., 2014), and biodiversity evaluation through Shannon, Simpson, and Richness indices. Results show an average tree density of 505 trees/ha, mean diameter at breast height of 25.73 cm, average tree height of 15.38 m, and mean aboveground biomass of 259.64 tons/ha, with E. fordii accounting for 26.33% and Lithocarpus ducampii for 70.78%.E. fordii was the most frequently encountered species (Mtg=55.72%), but the population structure remains unstable, showing a left-skewed distribution and a lack of young individuals, indicating weak natural regeneration. The study reveals that this forest has high conservation value but requires appropriate silvicultural management to restore natural structure and enhance biodiversity.
