Abstract

In this study, TiO2 is modified using a wet impregnation method with AgNO3 and Na2WO4 solutions. The molar ratios of each element in the mixture, Ag/Ti and W/Ti, range from 0.01 to 0.5%. After impregnation, samples are dried and calcined at 500 °C to enhance bonding between Ag and W with TiO2. The material's characteristics are investigated using Scanning Electron Microscopy, X-ray Diffraction, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy, and UV-Vis Diffuse Reflectance Spectroscopy. The photocatalytic activity of photocatalyst is studied through the degradation of methylene blue solutions under Ultraviolet radiation. The results show that the crystal structure and band gap energy of TiO2 do not change considerably, however, the photocatalytic activity of TiO2 is significantly increased. TiO2 treated with AgNO3 and Na2WO4 solutions at a molar ratio of 0.05% exhibits the best methylene blue degradation efficiency, achieving 68% compared to the unmodified TiO2 material at 62%. These results indicate that wet impregnation is a simple and effective method for modifying TiO2.
