PROCESSING ORGANIC SOLID WASTE INTO ORGANIC FERTILIZER USING CONTINUOUSLY OPERATING EQUIPMENT

Abstract


The study was conducted to develop an automated, continuous module for processing organic waste into organic fertilizer, applied at a military unit stationed in Thai Nguyen province. Organic solid waste arises from daily activities and self-sufficiency production operations, such as pig farming, vegetable cultivation, and collective kitchens at the unit. According to the research team's survey results, organic waste accounts for 70% of the total waste volume generated. Based on the regular generation of organic waste at the unit, the study proceeded to design and install one automated composting system operating on a continuous mechanism with a capacity of 100–200 kg of waste per day-night cycle. The fertilizer product processed by this module meets the organic fertilizer standards as stipulated in QCVN 01-189:2019/BNNPTNT. Specifically, it has a high organic matter content exceeding 30%, C/N ratio below 12, absence of pathogenic microorganisms such as E. coli and Salmonella, and heavy metal contents such as Pb, Cd, As, and Hg lower than permitted levels. For military units, the research results contribute to building units that perform well in environmental protection tasks and waste recycling to utilize as fertilizer for on-site self-sufficiency production activities.
