A STUDY ON SELECTING SEVERAL FLOWER VARIETIES IN LAO CAI CITY

Abstract

Researching and experimenting with some flower varieties to complement Lao Cai city with flower varieties with high yield, good quality, suitable to consumers' tastes. 5 varieties of roses, 5 varieties of gerberas and 5 varieties of dahlia are tested in Lao Cai city from June 2017 - June 2018. The area of each flower is 300 m² (20 m²/1 1 experimental box/1 variety). The experiment was Randommized Complete Block Design (RCBD), 3 repeated. Experimental planting results show that Canh sen roses and Song hy roses are capable of growing and developing well, flower yield reaches 9.0 cotton / tree with Canh sen roses and 7.8 cotton/ tree with Song hy roses, flower cut durability reaches 8 days. Gerbera varieties DTH125 and DTH199 gerberas also give superior growth and superior flower quality compared to other gerbera varieties, flower yield reaches 10.6 cotton/ bush (DTH125) and 9.7 cotton/ bush (DTH199), durability of cut flowers from 10 - 11 days. Red and purple Dahlia flower variety have the highest quality (reaching 98.7%), flower yield (7.6 cotton/ tree) and high cut flower durability (8 days). These are the varieties of flowers that have the potential to grow to expand the area for growing flowers for Lao Cai city.
