THAI NGUYEN UNIVERSITY WITH ASIA UNIVERSITY RANKING

Abstract


This article presents some important contents in the preparing process to apply for university rankings according to international standards. The data were collected from domestic and foreign scientific articles, the evaluation criteria provided by famous international organizations for university ranking in the world, and several formal resources available on the Internet. Several ranking important criteria that a higher education institution needs to check with were analyzed and highlighted. Compared with selected universities which have been ranked in the top 500 of the QS Asia Ranking, Thai Nguyen University has some outstanding criteria such as student-faculty ratio (lower, i.e. better); the percentage of faculties who hold PhD degree (equal to or higher). However, compared to the lowest corresponding archivements of the university the top 500 QS Asia, the percentage of scientific publications and the rate of external citations for Thai Nguyen University are remarkably lower, only about 80% and 50%, respectively.  Major evaluations and proposals were made to prepare the premise for the process of participating in and maintaining in the top 500 of QS Asia rankings.
