Abstract

Ardisia silvestris Pitard is a valuable medicinal herb containing tannins and glucodid with anti-inflammatory and healing scarring effects while providing support for stomach treatment. This reserch was implemented to supplement the information on ecological and morphological characteristics of this species in Le Lai, Duc Long, Duc Thong communes of Thach An district. The research used a field survey and sample plot method in association. The research results showed that Ardisia silvestris Pitard has been naturally found in the secondary forests near forest edges, and along streams, where the climate is humid, elevations from 300 - 600 m, the average temperature is about 20-240C; the average humidity is 81-84%; the rainfall is from 1,195.6 mm - 1,648.9 mm and the shading is from 50-70%. The soil in distribution areas of Ardisia silvestris Pitard is from light gray to dark gray. Ardisia silvestris Pitard is about 50 – 200 cm high with staggered leaves sprouting closely at the top of the stem with the shape of inverted blade or egg; the head is tapered and pointed, dark green above, paler or purple red below with serrated edges. Flowers grow in clusters, 10-15m long, colored white with purple pink. Ripe rruits are globose and red with the diameter around 7-8 mm.
