Abstract

The study was conducted at Lao Cai Provincial General Hospital with the aim of surveying the quality of life and some factors related to the quality of life of chronic kidney disease patients treated with maintenance hemodialysis. This study applies a cross-sectional descriptive research method. 120 chronic kidney disease patients treated with maintenance hemodialysis were interviewed with the use of the SF36 questionnaire. The results showed that the average SF36 score measuring the quality of life of the patients was 45.65 ± 8.18; The average SF36 scores for physical and mental health were 37.94 ± 9.19 and 53.35 ± 10.01, respectively. Patients with poor quality of life account for 30% of the total. Meanwhile, the number of patients with average and fair quality of life account for 54.2% and 15.8%, respectively. No patients have good quality of life. The poor and near-poor patients, female patients, patients with hemodialysis duration of less than 1 year have a lower quality of life than other patients do. The older Patients are, the lower quality of life they have. Patients who suffer from hypertension, anemia, reduction of albumin have a lower SF36 score than other patients do (P < 0.05). Therefore, the quality of life of hemodialysis patients at Lao Cai General Hospital is below average. There is a relationship between age, gender, economic conditions, hemodialysis duration, hypertension, anemia, reduction of albumin and quality of life of hemodialysis patients.
