Abstract

Tam Dao resort II– Ben Tam is situated at 2 mountainous districts namely Tam Dao and Dai Tu with lots of steep slopes and ravines; therefore, there is higher risk of landslides. Human interactions in the region such as mine explosions, transpotation and construction also increase the posibility of landslide.

This article use GEOSLOPE/W geotechnical program to calculate the stability of the steep slopes by utilizing Morgenstern-Price circular arc method through Factor of Safety (FS). Results showed: (1) Tam Dao resort II has high risk of landslide, mainly at the northern mountain range; Ben Tam has lower risk of landslide, mainly at the North-North East valley. (2) In 5 calculated sections, FSmin index fluctuates from 1600 – 2682, both the biggest and smallest values are of Tam Dao resort II, section 3 is the most likely place to have landslide. This is the foundation to propose solutions to combat and minimize  landslide disaster in accordance with local earth’s structure and hydrological conditions.
