Abstract

Black Bamboo has the scientific name Phyllostachys nigra Lodd.Munro belonging to the family Poaceae. Black bamboo is a rare species, small number of trees, narrow distribution, discovered in Vietnam in recent years. With the aim of studying the distribution characteristics and current status of Black Bamboo; PRA method and field investigation were employed to determine the distribution area and current status of Truc Den in Ha Giang and Lao Cai provinces. Research results showed that, black bamboo is only distributed in the foothills and slopes of earth mountain or mountains interspersed with rocks, altitude over 1,000 m above sea level. Lao Cai province has 03 distribution zones: Den Thang commune, Bat Xat district in 03 households; Ban Khoang (Ngu Chi Son commune) 02 households; Ta Van commune 02 households; Sapa town. Ha Giang province has 03 distribution zones: Dong Van town has 02 households; Ta Lung commune 05 households, Meo Vac district. About the current situation: Black bamboo is grown in the forest garden of households; with an area of 98 – 350 m2; quantity from 40 - 250 trees/household. Thus, Black Bamboo is distributed in 05 areas, with a very small area and quantity, Conservation and development research is essential.
