Abstract

This study aims to describe geriatric cancer patients’s performance at Thai Nguyen Oncology Center by G8 questionnaires. Research subjects were 132 cancer patients over 70 years old who is newly treated at Thai Nguyen Oncology Center from January 2021 to October 2021. Cross-sectional descriptive method. The G8 tool has 7 main items, scored 0-2 each, and divided into 3 groups: normal (14.5-17), moderate (11-14) and low (0-10.5). Mean age is 75; male/female ratio is 1.9/1; 85.6% stage IV; Cancer in the lung, breast, colon is accounted the highest; 62.9% for palliative care treatment alone, 9.1% for radical treatment. G8 scores range from 2 to 17 (median of 12); only 22.7% has normal G8 scores (14-17 points). Age group under 80; PS index 0, 1; Charlson index 0; Disease stage II/III had a normal level G8 score than the corresponding group (p<0.05). Comparison of G8 scores is better in breast cancer patients than lung cancer patients (p<0.05). Using the G8 questionnaire is valuable in describing the overall status of elderly cancer patients.
