WATER QUALITY ASSESSMENT OF SOME RIVERS IN GIA LAM DISTRICT BY WATER QUALITY INDEX (WQI)

Abstract


This study was carried out in three rivers in Gia Lam district of Hano city including Cau Bay river, Thien Duc river and Duong river. We collected 25 samples of surface water to analysis of water quality indicators for calculating the Water quality index (WQI). The results has showed that the average WQI of Duong river was 51.05 points corresponding to the level of yellow water quality (Level 3) - The level of water quality used for agricultural irrigation. Meanwhile, the average WQI of Cau Bay river and Thien Duc river were very low. This were 24.77 points and 16.06 points, respectively, corresponding to the level of red water quality (Level 5) – The level of water quality is seriously polluted and immediate measures should be taken.
