Abstract

Ca Mau city is located in the northeast of Ca Mau province with an area of about 249.29 km2, occupying 4.71% of the province's area. By applying statistical and comparison methods, this research conducts an assessment of the city's surface water resources. Ca Mau city has a large number of major river routes such as Tac Thu river, Ganh Hao river, Xang Ca Mau - Bac Lieu canal and Quan Lo - Phung Hiep canal, which facilitates transportation as well as socio-economic development. Nevertheless, due to the influence of the irregular semi-diurnal tide regime in the East Sea through Ganh Hao estuary, the hydrological regime of these river systems in Ca Mau city is highly complicated. According to the results of water quality monitoring in 2019 and 2021, there were signs of nutrient, organic and microbial pollution in the surface water in Ca Mau city. As a result, this research also identifies urgent issues and proposes solutions that the city needs to implement to protect the surface water resources and environment of Ca Mau city.
