Abstract

In order to sustainably exploit the hilly land area of Bach Thong district, the research has focused on assessing the current situation of land use and evaluating the effectiveness of different types of land use in terms of economy, society and environment. The study was carried out by methods of collecting and inheriting documents, surveying households, and assessing the economic, social and environmental efficiency of the land use process. Research results show that in 5 years, the area of agricultural production land, especially annual crops and protection forest land has decreased greatly. In contrast, the area of land planted with perennial crops increased to 198.79 hectares, and both production and special-use forests increased. The whole region has 6 LUTs with 14 common land use types. From the results of the assessment of economic, social and environmental performance of LUTs, it is shown that: LUTs with food crops should be maintained to ensure food security for the region, that is, LUTs of Spring rice - Seasonal rice. Spring rice – Seasonal rice – Sweet potato, Spring maize – Seasonal rice and Spring peanut – Seasonal rice. It is necessary to maintain and develop Citrus, Tea and Production Forest LUTs for the sake of sustainability and commodity production contributing to the enrichment of the region.
