Abstract

In order to sustainably exploit the hilly land area of Bach Thong district, the research has focused on assessing the quality changes of some soil types with different crops over 15 years of land use. The study was carried out by combining methods of inheriting soil profile analysis data in 2005 and conducting cross-sectional excavation and soil sampling to analyze some quality indicators. Research results show that the whole hilly land area of Bach Thong district has 5 soil groups with 11 main types of soil. The red and yellow soil group has 5 types of soil occupying the largest area (88.58% of the total land area), this is the soil group used for many common crops in the region. Research on 6 common soil types with different crops in Bach Thong hilly land area shows that over 15 years of cultivation, properties have changed, expressed through changes in acidity indicators, organic content, total nutrients in the soil, grain level composition. The perennial crops have made the soil quality change in the direction of increasing faster than the short-term crops. This is the point of attention for the solution of sustainable land use in hilly land areas, Bach Thong district, Bac Kan province.
