Abstract

The article describes the impact of COVID-19 on depression of 416 1st and 2nd year general medical students at Thai Nguyen University of Medicine and Pharmacy in 2022. The study used a cross-sectional descriptive research method. Chisquare test is used to analyze the relationship between a number of factors to the mental health of the study subjects. Research results show that, during the ongoing epidemic, the factor that worries students the most is the complication of "post-COVID-19 syndrome" after infection (64.42%); fear of poor school due to illness (58.89%); fear of sick relatives and friends (57.69%). At the time of the study, the most common depression problems among students were: difficulty concentrating, difficulty remembering details (59.62%); fatigue (48.32%); insomnia, waking up early or sleeping too much (44.23%); persistent feelings of sadness, anxiety, or “emptiness” (32.45%); difficult to make decisions (31.97%). Analysis of the relationship showed that the gender factor and the household economy of the study subjects were related to the number of psychological trauma factors appearing in the study subjects (p<0.05). In summary, COVID-19 affects the depression of 1st and 2nd year General Medicine students at Thai Nguyen University of Medicine and Pharmacy.
