CHARACTERISTICS OF ESOPHAGOGASTRODUODENOSCOPY IN THE STOMACH - DUODENAL SYNDROME OF CHILDHOOD AT THAI NGUYEN NATIONAL HOSPITAL

Abstract

The aim of this study was to describe the main endoscopic and histopathological findings of the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum in children with the stomach - duodenal syndrome. We conducted a prospective study of 111 children who underwent esophagogastro-duodenoscopy for the indication of abdominal pain at Thai Nguyen National Hospital from Feb.2021 to December 2021.  The results showed that there were 67.6% male and 32.4 female patients in the study group with a male-to-female ratio of 2.2/1. The mean age of the children was 7.70±2.38 years. Children aged between 5 and 10 years indicated to esophagogastroduodenoscopy were 67.4%. Gastric inflammation and ulcers were diagnosed in 32.5% of cases. Duodenal ulcers were diagnosed in 26.7% of cases. H.pylori was positive in 56.8% of cases. The Sydney System classifications was 64.9% of striated and convex lesions and 29.7% of congestive inflammatory lesions. The histological assessment showed mild inflammation (90.1%), and severe inflammation only 2.7%. Thus, upper gastrointestinal endoscopy is very valuable in diagnosing children with gastro duodenal syndrome, it is necessary to have studies to evaluate treatment results when endoscopic results confirm the pathology in the stomach.
