VALUES CHAIN ANALYSIS THROUGH CONSUMPTION CHANNELS OF SON TRA IN YEN BAI PROVINCE

Abstract


Son Tra is an indigenous plant having a great potential development in Yen Bai province. The analysis of the value chain through consumption channels of Son Tra products in Yen Bai province identified six actors, including (1) growers and natural harvesters, (2) collectors level 1 and 2; (3) wholesalers, (4) wholesalers and retailers (agency), (5) processors, and (6) consumers. In Yen Bai province, Son Tra producers provide products to consumers through 3 main channels. Channel 1 consists of two middlemen in the market. Channel 2 added an intermediary collector compared to channel 1. In Channel 3, Son tra growers directly sell fresh Son tra for processing establishments, and products are then purchased by the wholesale and retail agencies and then sold to the consumers. The study also proposed four solutions to improve economic efficiency and sustainable development of Son Tra in the study area.
