PREVALENCE OF INFERTILITY AMONG COUPLES IN REPRODUCTIVE AGE AT THAI NGUYEN PROVINCE

Abstract


A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted to describe the status of infertility among couples in reproductive age at Thai Nguyen province in 2018. Data were collected on 2,500 couples of reproductive age using a research toolkit. The results showed that the infertility rate of couples of reproductive age was 3.8% (96/2500 couples). Of which primary infertility accounts for 2.1% and secondary infertility accounts for 1.7%. The rate of infertility in the 18 - 29 age group was highest in both husband and wife at 4.9% and 5.9% respectively. Among infertile wives of infertility couples, 16.7% had a history of miscarriage, 6.3% of wives had a history of ectopic pregnancy, and 4.2% of wives had inflammatory complications after miscarriage. 27.1% of husbands have sperm abnormalities, 4.2% have no sperm; 30.2% of husbands have reduced sperm mobility; 26% of husbands have reduced sperm density and 26.0% of husbands have low sperm survival rate. Research results show that Infertility prevalence in Thai Nguyen was 38 couples/1000 couples of reproductive age.
