THE STATUS OF ROUTINE HAND HYGIENE COMPLIANCE AMONG HEALTH WORKERS AT THAI NGUYEN UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE AND PHARMACY HOSPITAL

Abstract


The study objective is to describe an overview the status of routine hand hygiene compliance among health workers at Thai Nguyen university of medicine and pharmacy hospital in 2022. A cross sectional study was conducted on 90 health workers, from June 2022 to June 2023. The study results show that the mean age of health workers was 39.01±7.5 years old, female was 68.9%. A total of 448 hand hygiene opportunities were observed, 216 opportunities were performed, accounted for 48.2%. Among 216 hand hygiene times performed, there were 120 opportunities to correctly perform the 6 routine hand hygiene steps, accounted for 55.6%. The prevalence of hand hygiene before sterile procedures was 76.1%; after contact with the patient 51.1% and after contact with utensils and surfaces surrounding the patient 16.7%. The prevalence of health workers who performed 3 hand hygiene opportunities was 31.1%; 4 opportunities 16.7% and 5 opportunities 7.8%. The prevalence of routine hand hygiene compliance was 26.8%; the mis-compliance and non-compliance 73.2%. The prevalence of routine hand hygiene compliance among health workers at Thai Nguyen university of medicine and pharmacy hospital is not high.
