ASSESSING CURRENT STATUS OF FORESTS TO DEVELOP THE DATABASE FOR PAYMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES IN BAC KAN PROVICE

Abstract


With the aim of assessement of the forest’s current status in Bac Kan province in order to develope a data base for determining the payment of forest environmental services in Bac Kan province.  The author uses software Arcgis 10.2 to synthesize data from the forest status map, forest inventory map in Bac Kan province in combination with field surveys to adjust and implement to standardize featured data and space. The result of research process has defined the specific area of each forest type which is classified by origine of forest, forest volume, purpose of use and tree species. The results showed that: total forest land in Bac Kan is 337,43.52 ha, of which natural forest is 286,223.23 ha, plantation forest is 51,122.29 ha. Based purpose of forest use, the forest in Bac Kan consist of 3 types of forest: special-use forest is 19,975.39 ha, protection forest is 83,680.57 ha, production forest is 233,759.56 ha. In term of forest volume, there are 5 types: rich forest is 13,628.70 ha, medium forest is 47,825.92 ha, poor forest: 207,773.30 ha, very poor forest is 41,517.80 ha and none volume is 26,597.80 ha. Classification of forest species, there are timber: 194,463.70 ha, bambooes: 3,944.20 ha, mixed forest: 89,927.50 ha, coconut: 703.8 ha. The results of truthing in the field to consolidate the figures extracted from the map showed that the atribute and special data accurate about 90.71%. The data of current forest status is a database for implementing payment of forest environmental services in Bac Kan province.
